Citizenship

Discrimination Law governs the right of individuals not be treated less favourably than others on grounds that include sex, race and disability.

For Parents

If you need more information about why you should register your child as British, you can find our leaflet here: Registration Leaflet English, Registration Leaflet French, Registration Leaflet Arabic.

The advice given on the Path to Papers can be trusted and is a good start. You can find links to the appropriate Home Office forms that you can use to apply to the Home Office yourself. The forms can be completed without legal advice.

We have produced a self-help pack to help you prepare the application successfully.

It is important to know that you will have to pay a fee to the Home Office for the consideration of the application. Currently this is 936. If your child is still young and you are not at immediate risk of being removed from the UK you can save up for it in stages. Be aware that the fee rises every spring.

It is important to remember that the Home Office charges the fee for considering the application. That means that if it is refused they still keep the money. So it is important to make sure the form is properly completed and all the evidence is enclosed.

If you are still not sure what to do or need further help you can contact us for some advice. You will not have to pay for this. You can contact Inger at inger.denhaan@covlaw.org.uk or phone Coventry Law Centre on 02476223053. You may need to leave a message with reception if Inger is not available.
